Gemini Pro wins the photo speed test

Gemini Pro Wins Photo Speed Test

While ChatGPT 5 Teams is still the bot of choice for most real estate agents, we also use – and regularly test – Gemini Pro, Grok (paid), Midjourney, and Perplexity Pro for photo and other image creation. The latest results shocked us.

In a head-to-head speed test, Gemini Pro left the others in the dust. It was 10x faster than ChatGPT 5, three times faster than Perplexity, and more than twice as fast as Grok.

We tested three common agent use cases:

  1. Creating a photo-realistic image from scratch
  2. Transforming an existing photo into a specific artistic style
  3. Editing an image

For example, we asked each bot to:

  • Create a photo-realistic image of people waiting in a long line to get into an Open House.
  • Turn an uploaded photo into a Paul Cézanne–style painting.
  • Remove trees from that same house photo.

The curveballs: Canva Pro couldn’t edit the photo automatically and refused the Cézanne-style request due to policy restrictions. Midjourney’s results were so far off the mark, we’re leaving them out entirely.

Gemini Pro is a speed demon

It took seconds for Gemini Pro to render an original image. A similar image in ChatGPT 5? Over three minutes. So, if speed is your top priority, Gemini Pro is hard to beat.

But accuracy is another story. ChatGPT 5 was worth the wait, delivering the most realistic Cézanne-style painting. Grok and Gemini Pro’s versions looked like cartoons, while Perplexity’s attempt came closer but was too dark and dreary.

Tree removal? Gemini Pro and Grok couldn’t pull it off. Perplexity came close to ChatGPT-5’s quality – and did it much faster. Grok earned the “most inaccurate” award in this round.

Under the hood

Why such a mixed bag? Not just between the bots, but within each bot’s own skill set? The answer lies in the built-in tech powering each one. ChatGPT 5 uses DALL·E 3, optimized for prompt accuracy and style matching. Gemini Pro runs on a lighter, faster version of Google’s Imagen model, which trades fine detail for speed. Perplexity blends multiple engines, switching between DALL·E, Stable Diffusion XL, and others depending on the task. Grok’s image model is less mature, as demonstrated by its cartoonish outputs.

Different models = different strengths. And none of them excel at everything.

Bots continue to battle

Not all bots do the same things or do them equally well. For now, Gemini Pro is your go-to for quick image creation, while ChatGPT 5 Teams is the winner for high-quality, accurate results.

Things change fast in AI. That’s why we keep active subscriptions to the leading platforms (though we’re still not willing to pay an extra $30/month for Grok 4, which has underdelivered across the board for quality content creation).

We’ll continue testing and sharing what works for real estate agents, as even the big-name chatbots struggle to create or edit images effectively.

It’s like that old saying: you can get a low price, a fast turnaround, or the highest quality, but you can’t get all three! (-Kevin)
